James Marson

St. Albans based wedding photographer

About me

I’m James — a proud family man . I’ve been happily married  for over twenty years, raising two amazing kids in St Albans, Hertfordshire. It’s home in every sense, and the place that keeps me grounded no matter where life or photography takes me.

Travel has always been a big passion. I’m drawn to places rich in culture, colour, and story — especially South Africa, India, and Vietnam. Those journeys have shaped the way I see people and moments, and they’ve deeply influenced the way I photograph: with curiosity, empathy, and a love for genuine moments.

My Photography Style

My approach is rooted in storytelling. Around 80% of what I shoot is completely candid — real moments with real emotions. I’m always looking for the quiet glances, the bursts of laughter, the unscripted moments that say more than any pose ever could.

The remaining 20% is gently directed, cinematic-style portraiture. Nothing stiff or overly staged — just subtle guidance to create images that feel natural, elevated, and beautifully composed. It’s a balance that allows me to capture both the authenticity of the day and the kind of timeless portraits you’ll want to cherish.

My Approach

I keep things relaxed and informal because it’s your wedding day — not a photo shoot! You should be living in the moment, not worrying about the camera. I blend into the day, letting things unfold naturally while making sure the memories that matter are captured beautifully and honestly. The result is a collection of images that feel true to you and will last a lifetime.
